Mayor Cor Lamers of Schiedam is in favour of a mandatory vaccination against the coronavirus. That’s what he says in an interview with local broadcaster Schie TV, which airs over Christmas.
”I think the cabinet would be wise to introduce that obligation and not just count on voluntary action,” he said in the interview. ‘If less than fifty percent get vaccinated, we still have a problem in the Netherlands. That’s got to be a lot, a lot more.’
Lamers thinks that sometimes the government should say that something is mandatory. ‘I think it’s a shame that the Cabinet isn’t taking that step. We have a lot of mandatory vaccinations, as a child you also got a whole package. You can’t refuse that, it’s just mandatory.’
Not required
Moreover, participation in the National Vaccination Programme is not compulsory. However, the vast majority of parents participate.
