KLM: from July onwards passengers are more often on intercontinental flights

Airline company KLM announces that it is restarting its network ‘gradually and carefully’. Currently, about half of intercontinental flights only carry cargo on board, but KLM hopes to be able to take passengers back on an increasing number of intercontinental flights in July.

Many scheduled flights by KLM came to a halt in April due to the corona crisis. Within Europe, KLM performed 1116 flights in April, 612 intercontinental flights. By comparison, in July and August last year KLM performed a total of 22,000 flights.

In July, KLM wants to offer about 80 percent of the normal number of European destinations and about 75 percent of the intercontinental destinations. In August this is approximately 95 percent and 80 percent, respectively. However, about half of the intercontinental flights currently only carry freight and therefore no passengers. When international travel restrictions are relaxed, KLM will of course again transport passengers to these destinations.

KLM says it has chosen to restart as many destinations as possible in order to offer its customers a wide choice and then to increase the frequencies and capacity.
