In June 2017, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
urged Ghanaians to restore the nation’s values, which has been destroyed by corruption, as it is a requisite for nation-building.
He made the statement at the National Commission for Civic Education’s (NCCE) national dialogue which took place at the National Theatre on June 14, 2017.
“The country’s journey was started with great hope and aspiration and our potential was never in doubt and it is still not in doubt and we can still do more if we have our history, our sense of purpose and culture as our foundation of being a successful nation, if we have these foundations in place we can re-affirm our identity … Ghana is observing extreme corruption and other things unusual of a country with disciplined citizens,” he said.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the need for Ghanaians to help in restoring our national values.
The Vice President who was the special Guest of honour at the National Commission for Civic Education’s (NCCE) national dialogue which took place at the National Theatre, Wednesday, June 14, addressed the people present by making key statements on our values and challenges which has let the nation down.
He went on to say that the nation needs a restoration of these values. He further said that the restoration of these values is a crucial requisite in building the country.
‘’The country’s journey was started with great hope and aspiration and our potential was never in doubt and it is still not in doubt and we can still do more if we have our history, our sense of purpose and culture as our foundation of being a successful nation, if we have these foundations in place we can re-affirm our identity,’’ he said.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia thanked the NCCE for taking up such a good initiative to engage the nation in a dialogue on our identity and values on their platform were “Ghana is observing extreme corruption and other things unusual of a disciplined citizen”.
“Extreme corruption” has become prevalent in our country because of the adaptation of negative traits like greed, dishonesty and violent crime have become the norm of our everyday life.
He further went on to say that the President is dedicated to ensuring that there are nationalism and patriotism among Ghanaians.
The government being aware of civic rights and is ready to support the NCCE in performing its roles in getting every Ghanaian committed to these values, he added while urging Ghanaians to make these values a part of their daily lives.
The Government in its commitment to support the NCCE has resourced the unit by doubling the resources and capital it needs in operating and achieving its constitutional mandate.
He supported the plea of the NCCE Chair, Mrs Josephine Nkrumah of the need for the restoration of the study of civic education in our educational curriculum.
He, therefore, entreated the National Commission NCCE to live by the parable” to whom much is given, much is expected”
