LIVE UPDATES: Press briefing about housing, rent arrangements as Ghana battles Coronavirus

The Ministry of Information holds a press briefing at the Press Centre, Accra to update the populace about Ghana’s situation in the fight against Coronavirus.

It is expected that there will be an update on Ghana’s case management; advisory on housing; and rent arrangements and the state of health infrastructure projects in Ghana.

The Ministry has been providing regular updates via the same medium and on various social media platforms since the outbreak. This encounter, however, is the first after the president’s 8th address on how the country is faring as well as measures taken to defeat the virus.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, April 19 extended the ban on public gatherings by two more weeks, effective 1am, Monday, April 27 as a step to prevent the spread.

Admitting that the pandemic has exposed the deficiencies of the country’s healthcare system, he promised to build 88 district hospitals and 6 regional hospitals, stressing that his government “has decided to undertake a major investment in our healthcare infrastructure, the largest in our history.”

The construction, is expected to begin this year and will be ready to use in a year.

The announcement was not only met with doubts but calls to rather complete similar projects started by the John Mahama administration. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also accused the president of using the address to launch his campaign for the 2020 elections.
