Mahama wanted to give ECG to foreigners – John Boadu

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has called on Ghanaians to exercise patience as the Akufo-Addo government brings finality to the PDS Concession saga.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo government does not intend to resurrect ‘dumsor’ which was inflicted on Ghanaians and their businesses by the NDC Administration, hence, the decision to suspend the operation of PDS in order to conduct thorough investigations into the detected anomalies in its documents.

Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, the NPP Chief Scribe, opined that the NDC should be the last political party to run commentary on the issue.

He explained that the Millennium Challenge Account which was established by the American government was as a result of good governance of former President John Agyekum Kufuor between 2001 and 2004; thus the second compact of the fund was meant to be invested in ECG during the reign of the NDC, but the government in power then decided to shortlist only foreign companies to run the operations of ECG.

“….the NDC government shortlisted companies which they intend to run the ECG but when we took over power we realised that almost all the companies which have been shortlisted are foreign companies . . . so we decided to review the contract to get Ghanaians to participate in the business because it was as if we were handing over the business to foreigners to operate our ECG for us,” he said.

John Boadu believed the Akufo-Addo government should rather be commended for giving 51 percent of the ECG concession to a consortium called PDS which is solely Ghanaian-owned as the President knows that only Ghanaians can make the country progress.

“ . . the NDC should commend the Akufo-Addo government because if they were in power, the foreigners would have taken the whole concession and profit away . . . the foreigners are only here to help us and not to develop our country for us because they will repatriate every profit to their country,” he slammed.

According to him, he will not begrudge the NDC for their conspiracy theory that relatives of President Akufo-Addo are behind the PDS deal, saying they are only indulging in “propaganda”

“ . . as for this conspiracy theory of relatives and family members involved in PDS it is allowed because we know it is a propaganda. I believe that a lot of investigations are going into it and very soon the investigative team will update the country on their findings so that we have regular power supply in the country,” he indicated.
