Martin Amidu on his way out, set to rejoin NDC

Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Kaiser Amidu is homeward bound to rejoin his political comrades in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in frontline politics, Ghanacrusader.com can report authoritatively.

The anti-corruption crusader, who accepted President Akufo-Addo’s appointment to serve as head of the novel Office of Special Prosecutor last year, has faced many frustrating and counter-productive moves from appointees of the government that has virtually incapacitated him from performing his constitutional duty of combating graft.

A senior member of the Council of Elders of the NDC confided in Ghanacrusader that positive discussions have been held with their comrade Martin Amidu.

“He, himself [Martin Amidu] is aware he is in the lion’s den. He is ideologically opposed to the Danquah-Busiast thought of politics and economic management. Our old flame of probity, transparency and accountability binds us all as comrades. So he is coming home,” the revered senior NDC man disclosed but declined tagging a specific timeline for this upcoming development that will shock the country.

The party elder said differences and personal problems Martin Amidu has with flagbearer John Mahama, Mahama Ayariga and other party members are being ironed out amicably.

“He is my brother, our brother. We are all human beings and can get hurt by a colleague’s actions. At the end of the day, we need to display maturity as family members by coming together to forge ahead as a united house going into the battlefield,” he added.

Ghanacrusader learnt experienced politician and longest-serving Member of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and former President John Mahama have amicably resolved their differences. Alban Bagbin, our sources disclosed, is being considered to be given a big role in the 2020 campaign of President Mahama.

And the same consideration is being attached to the homecoming of Martin Amidu. Martin Amidu is hailed for his no-nonsense approach to seeing things done selflessly for the benefit of the people. Some NDC stalwarts hold the belief he can be one of the keys to unlocking the hearts of floating voters for victory in 2020 for the party.

A close confidant of Martin Amidu, who is feverishly lacing his boots to become MP in the north told Ghanacrusader.com that the Special Prosecutor’s coming back into frontline politics of the NDC “must not be anything just like a storm in a teacup.”

“Look, my brother, we suffered in the internal politicking of the NDC. The treachery, gossip, backbiting, bad faith are just too much. So for me, I know he [Martin Amidu] will subject this coming back to critical scrutiny. Martin Amidu won’t just jump because somebody has told him to jump. He will think about it well,” Amidu’s confidant observed, adding that, “I know of certain moves. You are alerting me of the advanced stage but I will check with him later. His happiness is my happiness. This coming back must come with proper conditions and agreements. This time, nobody will be allowed to take advantage of us.”

General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Asiedu Nketiah earlier this week, disclosed that the party admonished Mr Martin Amidu not to accept the appointment of President Akufo-Addo but he never listened.

In the face of the glaring impediments and roadblocks that have tightened and prevented him from playing his full role as Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu surely has second thoughts accepting the appointment. His numerous public epistles of lamentations echo his predicament poignantly.
