Consumers should brace for a hike in the prices of plastic products as the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) has announced a 7% price increase on all locally manufactured plastic goods, effective 1st July 2025.

In a statement issued and signed by the Association’s President, Ebbo Botwe, the GPMA attributed the price adjustment to the recent implementation of a 5% Excise Tax on locally produced plastic products.

The Association noted that the move, while regrettable, has become necessary to cushion manufacturers against the added tax burden imposed by the new government policy.

“We wish to inform all our cherished clients that, with effect from 1st July 2025, all our prices will be increased by 7%,” the statement read.

“This has become necessary due to the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products.”

The GPMA has urged businesses, retailers, and consumers to take note of the adjustment and plan accordingly.

The announcement comes amid rising concerns about the cost of doing business in Ghana, especially within the manufacturing sector, where energy costs, raw material prices, and regulatory fees continue to climb.
