Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has outlined his top priorities for the region in an interview with GHOne’s Efia Tutuwaa Danso, monitored by MyNewsGh.
He discussed key areas of focus should he be confirmed in office.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasised the importance of job creation and legacy projects for the region.
“One of my key priorities will be creating more job opportunities, which will help uplift our people economically,” he stated.
Additionally, he pledged to complete ongoing infrastructure projects, including roads, hospitals, and markets.
He specifically highlighted the completion of the Agenda 111 health facilities as a critical goal, noting that the Ashanti Region alone accounts for 16 of these projects.
Regarding stalled projects, particularly markets, Dr. Amoakohene committed to reviewing the causes of the delays.
“I will conduct a comprehensive review of all stalled projects to determine whether the issue is a lack of funding or political will. From there, I will make informed decisions on how to proceed,” he assured.
When asked about the Kumasi Kejetia Market Phase 2 project, he confirmed that work would resume, though he did not provide specific timelines.
Dr. Amoakohene also addressed the implementation of a 24-hour economy in the region, which he sees as essential for sustaining economic growth.
“The idea is to keep our businesses running at all hours, which will contribute to job creation and economic stability,” he explained.
Mining, another critical sector for the region, will also be a focus.
“We need to ensure that the benefits of mining are felt in the communities, with proper regulation and investment in local development,” he stated.
Regarding his vision for the region, Dr. Amoakohene expressed a commitment to staying connected with the people.
“Our needs as a region evolve over time, and it is crucial that we remain responsive and proactive to the people’s demands. This approach will drive development and help maintain the trust of the electorate,” he concluded.
