The fixed costs for an average family will rise much faster than inflation next year. An average family will pay almost 500 euros more in fixed costs in 2025, reports price comparator Keuze.nl based on its own research. The costs are therefore more than 120 euros higher than can be expected based on inflation. The price increase is mainly due to more expensive insurance.
A family with two adults, two children, an owner-occupied home and a car will pay 474 euros more in fixed costs next year than in 2024 due to rising premiums and subscription costs. This means that costs will increase significantly faster than the expected inflation rate of 3.2 percent in 2025. The costs are calculated on the basis of the most common subscriptions and contracts within families, together with municipal taxes. Rent or mortgage costs are not included.
According to Keuze.nl, there is a significant difference between the types of fixed costs. For example, the cost increases of internet and mobile subscriptions are expected to remain fairly limited, while many common insurance policies will rise sharply next year. Health insurance will be considerably more expensive next year at about 288 euros, car insurance follows with a cost increase of 97.80 euros for the average family situation. For home insurance, families will pay just under 60 euros more in 2025.
Lower energy bills
Not all costs will go up in 2025. The energy bill will even be slightly lower for an average family with a fixed energy contract without solar panels. This is because energy rates are slightly lower compared to the beginning of 2024 and the energy tax will also be lower next year. The bill will be higher for families with a variable energy contract.
