Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the Vice President of Ghana
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to make mobile phones more accessible and affordable for everyone in the country.
In a post shared on X by an account known as ED Hub, Dr. Bawumia was heard saying the NPP government will collaborate with mobile phone companies to provide affordable smart devices to the public.
“We will make access to mobile phones affordable, we will partner with mobile phone companies to provide phones to the public so that every month, you pay one cedi, by the time you finish paying the phone becomes yours,” he noted.
The government’s plan to make mobile phones affordable for all Ghanaians is expected to accelerate the country’s digital transformation, enabling more citizens to access digital services and participate in the digital economy.
By providing affordable smart devices, the government aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that everyone has access to the digital tools they need to succeed
This initiative is expected to increase access to digital technology and promote financial inclusion, building on the NPP government’s ongoing digitalization efforts.
The government has already made significant strides in this area, and this new plan is seen as a major step forward in bridging the digital divide in Ghana.
