NDC members are suffering – Bagbin

Alban S. K. Bagbin, who is aspiring to be flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has bemoaned the extreme calamitous pandemonium that the members of the main opposition party finds themselves in.

Speaking over the weekend on Prestea based Energy 93.3 FM in the Western Region of Ghana, Hon. Bagbin said, “one of the reasons that motivated me to contest is the state of members of the NDC party. As a founding father of the NDC, I saw in 1992, up to date, how we struggle to win elections, and at the end, the benefits DONT come to the members of the party. I cannot accept that. It pains me a lot”.

Elaborating why NDC performed abysmally as a government from 2008-16, Hon. Bagbin said, “you cannot have good governance with such a weak, flagging party of discontented support base”. He added, “the benefits of democracy must be tangible to the members”.

It is however unclear how the Hon. Bagbin intends to support NDC members should he win as a flag bearer and possibly a President, but, one thing is clear, that, he isn’t happy with the state of NDC Members after 16 years of 26 years of multi-party democracy. It is also unclear, who are the wrong people enjoying the benefits of the NDC, but, the opulent administration of John Mahama (2012-16) is fresh in the minds of many NDC elders.

Touching on his contribution to the NDC, he said he “joined the revolution in 1979 as one of the students leaders with JJ Rawlings. So in 1992, I was a member of the legal committee, who drafted the NDC constitution. Since then, I was a member of NEC, member of Council of Elders, and many more. But I left the committee to declare my intent to lead the party”.

Hon. Bagbin paid a courtesy call to the Divisional Chief Prestea Himan Traditional Area, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, after which he met with the delegates and supporters of the NDC in Prestea.
