Strip off privileges of Mahama as Ghana’s ex-president — Group

A group calling itself Concern Youth in Politics (CYP) wants former President Mahama stripped off every privilege he enjoys as an ex-president.

According to the group, the action by Mr Mahama to show videos of Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence to foreign diplomats is very “irresponsible” of him.

The convener of the group, who doubles as former Assembly Member for Nkwantanan Electoral Area in Juaben Hon. George Opoku Amponsah writes:

At a time when the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo Addo, is striving to building a Ghana beyond aid, a former President, is engaging in irresponsible political gymnastics aimed at scoring cheap political points ahead of his party’s Presidential primaries.

While his competitors are busy engaging delegates with pragmatic human – centered policies to revamp the party he sent to opposition with his corruption – ridden appointees, he (Mahama) is reported to have engaged diplomats and at his usual mischievous best, flanked by some of his incoherent national officers, displayed acts of anti – nationalist gestures by showing pictures and videos of the recent violence of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election to portray Ghana as a violent Nation.

One would have expected Ex President Mahama to show videos of Atiwa, Talensi, Akwatia and Cheriponi by-elections violence to possibly educate the diplomats about the history of by-election violence in the country.

Recently, this same man reminded Ghanaians of the revolutionary roots of the NDC party and expressed his willingness to match the NPP boot – for – boot in 2020.

If a former President can display such a high level of indiscretion, he doesn’t deserve to be accorded the courtesies and privileges of a former President.

We call on all well meaning Ghanaians as well as civil society organisations to call Ex- President Mahama to order before it is too late.
