The Double Track System will not be scraped – Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education has debunked reports on the cancellation of the Double Track System under the Free SHS policy in some schools in the Northern region.

Some reports filed last week indicated that, the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service after a meeting with Head teachers of Second Cycle Schools in Tamale, asked some schools to withdraw from the system after receiving discouraging reports of infrastructure constraints.

According to the reports, some of the schools government had reportedly asked to backtrack from the system were the Tatale Evangelical Presbyterian Agriculture Senior High School, Pong Tamale SHS and St. Charles Mini Seminary mainly due to infrastructural deficits.

But a press statement dated, 8th October 2018 from the Ministry of Education stated that “for the avoidance of doubt, no school earmarked for the double track system has had it withdrawn due to infrastructure challenges.”

The Ministry of Education further indicated that in a situation where any school falls below the expected threshold of the Double Track System, it would be subsequently taken off the system.
